Volvo has been producing cars since 1927, and from Day 1, safety has been paramount. Before being acquired by Ford in 1999, Volvo was known primarily for its boxy sedans and station wagons, but following Ford’s sale of Volvo to China’s Geely Automobile in 2009, the current era of Volvo includes bold designs, efficient drivetrains, the latest technologies and, of course, class-leading safety.
Two of the latest additions to the Volvo lineup show the direction this Swedish automaker is headed. The Volvo XC90 is already on sale and is winning key awards thanks to its stunning design and its advanced XC90 T8 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid, while the recently introduced Volvo S90 flagship sedan goes on sale this year with a level of luxury and refinement to finally put Volvo back in the conversation as a leading luxury automaker.
Later this year, the Volvo V90 will go on sale as a replacement for the Volvo V70. This station wagon is only offered in the U.S. today as the half-wagon/half-crossover Volvo XC70, and this model will likely be replaced by the V90 Cross Country. The Cross Country moniker is currently worn by special version of the Volvo S60 sedan and Volvo V60 wagon offering a more rugged appearance and improved ground clearance. While light off roading is the key attribute of the XC and Cross Country models, the Polestar tuned V60 and S60 brings some of Volvo’s racing heritage to a track near you.
With its current lineup, Volvo has eight distinct models ranging from the $34,150 S60 sedan up to $43,950 for the all-new XC90, although pricing for the S90 flagship has not been released.
